What's this all about then?

This blog is essentially a dialogue between my 3 home educated children, (whom I was going to give nicknames, but I just know I wouldn't be able to remember who's who) and myself. I will use it to record the work that is set for them, and they will be able to post comments to let me know if they've completed the tasks. I am hoping that this will also double as a useful record to show the authorities when they come calling. We are still getting used to the kids coming out of School and into Home Education, so haven't decided properly on a philosophy or approach yet - although I know I will want to incorporate some structure and also be flexible enough to go out and enjoy the weather when we can! It will also be a place for family and friends to get involved and keep an eye on what we're doing, because they think we just laze about and do nothing all day!!!

19th - 25th March, 2012. DANNY + AMY

Ok guys, this week is the last week we have to pack before we go to Butlins and then move!!

Mon - Dance lessons evening 5:15
Tue - Dance lessons 10:30
Wed - Visit to the Buddhist centre
Thu - Taking the cats to Woodgreen. Amy St.Johns
Fri -
Sat - Danny's Birthday

So I want you to pack up everything in your rooms this week. You should have 1 box which you can use to keep everything you will need to keep with you until we move.

Everything else should go either .... in the trailer to go to the tip .... in a box to take to the new house, make sure boxes are filled right up and sealed with tape - don't forget to label them so we know they're yours. (then put the boxes in the lounge) .... in a box to go to a charity shop. (in the dining room) ....any furniture that is going to the new house needs to go in the living room.

*IMPORTANT* BY SUNDAY NIGHT YOU SHOULD HAVE JUST A MATTRESS, BEDDING AND 1 BOX OF THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT UNTIL WE MOVE.

12th - 16th March ALICE

Alice's posts are going to be a little different as we don't do any "structured" work with her at the moment - but she is forever asking me questions, some of them we answer straight away, and others need a bit longer to look into or maybe arrange a trip to find out more about.

"Do all animals need water?"

"Why did the dinosaurs die?"

"Why are Strawberries called Strawberries?"

"Does everyone have a belly button?"

"How fast can animals run?"

"How do you milk a cow?"

"Why are sheep's wool white?"

Just a few to be going on with ...

"Why are sheep's wool white?"

12th - 16th March, DANNY.

As it's Amy's Birthday this week and we already have 2 trips planned, Big bang fair on Thursday and Burghley House on Friday; we'll just be finishing off from last week and doing a little about Burghley house.

Astronomy - Tell me more about what a "Supernova" is - you can include pictures from the internet or drawn and some information - try and make it easy to understand so even I can understand it!!

Maths - Remind me to speak to Conquer Maths about getting you on their system at a reduced price.

English - Go to the following web address and follow the instructions - you can print the sheet out if it's easier. http://www.teachingideas.co.uk/history/files/cctudors.pdf

Physics - Find out what an "Astrolabe" is. Once you've found some information yourself - check out this website http://www.schoolsliaison.org.uk/kids/aston/changingtimes/tudors/inventions.htm
Find out what other things the Tudor's invented and if they've been overtaken by new things now.

12th - 16th March AMY

Hey sweetie, Happy Birthday!!!

Today we have trips already planned for Thursday (Big Bang Fair) and Friday (Burghley House) and your birthday on Tuesday so not much other stuff really. You also have St.Johns ambulance on Thursday evening as long as we are back in time.

So, mainly just finishing off from last week and a bit around Burghley House. (That spelling doesn't look right to me but it is how it's spelt on my emails)

Citizenship - Write up about the animal rights issues brought up in the film we watched.

Maths - Complete the lesson you were stuck on last week, hopefully it should be a lot easier now you've gone over it with Hannah.

English - Finish off writing out your assignment, fill out the form and get it sent off asap.

Art and Design - Find some examples of Elizabethan Architecture and look for the similarities between them.

Have a good week honey. xx

5th - 9th March, 2012. DANNY

We'll be taking it easy this month, due to books being packed away and all the packing we need to do - so as long as the stuff on this list is done, you can pretty much do what you want to do.

Astronomy - This worksheet will take quite a while so spend half an hour working on it this week. (Dropbox, Education, Subjects, Astronomy, statements about cosmology.)

ICT - Create yourself a Gmail account and put a comment on this post

English - go to http://www.literacyassessment.co.uk/ and go to "take the test", LEA=Northamptonshire, School=Home Educator, Password is written on the board, group is those morrises and you know your name. It's a super easy listening and spelling test so shouldn't take long.

Maths - Spend half an hour on Education city doing maths

Physics - watch this video - http://www.khanacademy.org/science/physics/v/introduction-to-tension - and let me know honestly how you find it - is it too hard, boring, easy etc?

Let me know how you get on. x
